why are you ramming clogs down my throat?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Has anyone else noticed that whatever trends glide down the runway, no matter how ridiculous or dated they may seem, become fashion law moments after the critics give their two (or five, depending on which critic) cents on a collection. Seriously, it doesn't matter how off hand or completely insane something may seem (temporary tattoos and obscene amounts of velvet included), if it's designed by the right company, seen in the right magazines and on the right people, everyone flocks towards it.

The trend in question is "new and slightly modern" version of the clog. I just got through reading about Opening Ceremony's Fall 2010 collection which includes their updated version of the clog. I happen to dig what they've done to the shoe, but what disturbed me the most was that not only was I looking at OC's version and the accompanying article, but I was also accosted with a side advertisement for the Topshop 'Seanna' closed toe clogs. I've got nothing against clogs or those who happen to love wearing them, but I'm dumbfounded at how many people are jumping on the band wagon and how quickly it's happening. A vast amount of high middle and low end brands are clogging it up, and in the process giving me a headache. Is this the new 'it' shoe? Are people seriously going to wear these things? And why in the hell are all these magazines and websites force feeding me this shoe? Why?!

Marketing is such an amazing thing...

r.i.p. daul kim.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Korean supermodel Daul Kim died today rather unexpectedly seeing as she was only 20 years young. I've always had a thing for two types of models: the androgynous and the Asian. Daul Kim, like her long legged counter part Liu Wen, was one of my favorites, not simply because she was Asian, but more so because she had a personality which made her more appealing. I'm very sad about this...

the rudest night in music.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Kanye West effectively showed us all that he has absolutely no class.

I'm pretty sure the internet will be on fire updating you all on what took place during this years Video Music Awards. For the most part, the recaps won't be about the excellent Michael Jackson tribute performed by his sister Janet, and it won't be about Lady Gaga's disturbing rendition of "Paparazzi" either. Tomorrow your inbox's, twitter pages, blog feeds, and facebook's will all be focused on yet another of Kanye West's classless outbursts.

There is so much I could say right now but I'm pretty sure I'd come off as a judgmental bitch, so I'll end with this: If you don't challenge a person to change, they never will. Kanye West and ALL of his outbursts are unacceptable, and classless. Tonight I've read so many tweets and blog comments where people are excusing his blatant ignorance because 1) he's just Kanye and 2) they aren't into Taylor Swifts music. UNACCEPTABLE. Respect is respect.

I know that he's given away awards of his because he felt someone better deserved them, but we can't expect everyone to do that. Especially because as an artist you should be your biggest fan. Whose to say Taylor Swift thought she actually deserved that award. We shouldn't shrug off this obvious insult as "Kanye just being Kanye". If that's the case, Kanye needs to grow the fuck up. There's this little thing called tact, and he basically showed us he has none.

PS. I have so much more respect for Beyonce now than I ever have in the past. Forget how I feel about her music and her acting (cough), she's a class act for sure.

PPS. His apology is wack sauce. How do you apologize and then try to justify your actions as you just being a fan of pop culture? GTFOH!

there's an app for that..

I don't think anyone loves those iPhone application commercials more than I do. Sometimes I wish SNL would do a digital short called "There's an App for that..." and just make up the most ridiculous applications ever. I think Apple beat SNL (or rather me) to the punch with this one...

T Pain is not my favorite person. When he first arrived on the scene this auto tuning, finger snappin', dread lock flipping, top hat wear MC/singer he was absolutely in my iPod. But that was before the 'Big Ass Chain' incident, and before everyone, their aunt, and cousin down the street started using auto tune and wore it the hell out. Now I can't stomach T Pain. I can't even stand to look at him with one eye open after his shitty explanation as to why he bought a chain bigger than my torso and expensive enough to feed a struggling nation of children. Just when I thought I was through with him for good, THIS appears.

iPhone has officially gone stupid by creating an application that allows you to sing T Pain's jams using the auto tune device that made him famous. With the "I Am T-Pain" application you can choose amongst several of T-Pain hits and basically sing the lyrics that pop up on your phone kareoke style. What's most interesting though is that some of the songs include duets with T-Pain, and when your finished you can post your music onto Crackbook or Myspace. If your interested, application is about $3 on iTunes...[gizmodo]

prada autumn/winter 09 lookbook.

Photobucket

Dude. I've seen a lot of look books for a variety of designers in the last couple of months, especially for the Fall and Winter seasons, but this Prada A/W look book surpasses them all as far as creativity goes. The illustrations are amazing, they keep you interested in every image, just what a look book should do, keep the audience intrigued.

the evolution of a superstar.

Photobucket Photobucket

By now, I'm pretty sure everyone is getting a little tired of Michael Jackson news. Including myself, I wish people would just allow him to rest in peace already, but I digress. Being one never to turn away from a good piece of artwork, I decided it post this 'Epic Thriller ' painting created by Kelly Coats. The painting chronicles and captures MJ's facial evolution quite nicely....

current insane obsession:

I came across the coolest designer yesterday. I'm not sure how, but I'm glad my eyes caught this. Australian Kit Willow is creating some timeless pieces with her contemporary line Willow. Excellent draping, classic lines, and her work with glasses and beading has left me wanting money in my pocket to buy everything she creates...

wives of famous athletes wear the darnest things.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

I've had a bone to pick with Vanessa Bryant ever since I saw her in a jersey, purple tutu, leggings, a leather jacket, and ankle boots...ALL AT ONCE. I've never understood her style. Seeing as she is the wife of one of the most accomplished athletes of our time, you think she'd look a little better stepping out of the house, right? Yea, well I thought that too...

I was talking to some guy friends who love playing my antagonist in situations like these. These said friends couldn't understand why I was being so hard on Vanessa Bryant. I mean after all, maybe she's not so much into fashion like I am, maybe she doesn't know the awkward way she dresses herself is indeed WRONG, maybe she just doesn't care...Well, you know what, I hope she doesn't care. I hope that the Manolo's, the tutu's, the bedazzled jeresy dresses circa 1999, and the sequin body suit with her tata's hanging out for the world to see, make her happy. Because if it does, that means those hideous outfits actually meant something. I doubt it though...

If you look hard enough your eyes will burn.
(Ok that was mean...sorry)

don't call it a comeback. (crackheads need love too).

I have a thing for all the down trodden, the heavy hearted, the crackheads of the world. Especially celebrity crackheads. My Dad use to always tell my siblings and I that people live for the rise, and live for the fall. I never really understood this until I got into adulthood. People really enjoy rooting for the underdog, but once the underdog gets to the top they live to see that person fall flat on their ass.

Michael Jackson was probably the biggest case in this unfortunate flaw in human nature. People loved and embraced his music as a child, they even threw him a bit of a bone once he got to that awkward acne filled prepubescent period, but once he got to be an adult and the flaws started to show, they cut his behind quicker than you can say mama-se-mama-saw-mamacousa.

I think that's why I have a soft spot in my heart for the celebrity crackheads of the world, especially those who have had such a profound part of my childhood. I feel bad for them. I know how it can be to have the people who puff you up on the regular be the same ones that laugh in your face when you trip and fall. Britney Spears and Whitney Houston are all at the top of my 'Crackheads Need Love Too' list, and Whitney is the reason for this post.

I tweeted earlier if anyone was excited to have Whitney back into the studio and en route to record what I hope will be another classic under her belt. More people than I originally thought would reply did, and the votes were unanimously in her favor to win. I'm rooting for you Whitney.

Just stay away from crack Ok?

don't stop the boogie.

kicks after six.

I know a lot of people that are going to be re-posting this video today, but since Hellz Bellz is one of my favorite brands (even before Marc J) I feel as if it is my duty to blog about this. Kicks After Six is a special capsule collection from the infamous womens contemporary line boasting six garments that accurately display the graphic artistry Hellz is known for. I'm really digging the Yves St Laurent inspired tee! Check out this teaser video below.

all this because she's a size 6?

Lara Stone in Balmain & Stella McCartney

It has been confirmed today that one of fashions newest 'It' girls Lara Stone is indeed a size 6. Before you gag on your tongue, I think it's only fair that we evaluate what this actually means. I think it's rather amusing that people in the fashion industry expect women to be a size 0-2 (sample sizes right?) and to also be awkwardly tall. That is something I've never been able to understand about this industry, not only does it produce horrible body images for younger women, it also causes women of all ages to have unrealistic ideas about what beauty really is. Its been like this for years, so what am I complaining about, right?

I find it fascinating that some media outlets are marveling at the fact that Lara Stone is a US size 6. Yes it's very unusual to find that in high fashion, and yes it's pretty cool she's able to open and close couture shows like Chanel without hassle to slim down. She's able to still have an awesome career walking in shows for the likes of Hermes, Anna Sui, and even my favorite Givenchy, but good gumbo, people act like she's not thin as is. I'm currently 5' 5" and a size 6. Lara has about 5 inches on me and is also a size 6. Although I'm on the small side, if you take my body and stretch it out 5 inches I'd still be super thin. Get it?

Truth be told, I'd rather be her size that some of these other models. They sometimes look malnutured. At least she looks like she enjoys a good burger every now and then. I'm just saying.

this is untouched?!

Photobucket Photobucket

I've always been aware of Amber Rose's obvious beauty, but like most people, I tend to question what I see on camera. Makeup, photoshop and endless other tools are used on a daily basis to create the illusion that celebrities are flawless. The fact remains that they aren't, they have facial flaws and body insecurities just like the rest of us. Amber Rose is not this type of celeb.

These are UNTOUCHED pictures of Amber from a recent drop by visit to her new modeling agency Ford Models. I knew she was pretty, but good Lord. She's kinda flawless...

I'm not going to lie, I still think she's just going to be in advertising editorials where they can fix her and catalogs, those thighs ain't made for runway. Sorry...
