german pancakes/the funnel cake of my dreams.

Photobucket
Just found this amazing recipe for German pancakes. Yes, I didn't know pancakes had a nationality either! Also called the Dutch Baby Pancake, this is a sweet breakfast dish similar to Yorkshire pudding, (which, to my understanding, is normally savory not sweet). It's made with flour, sugar, heavy cream and topped with fruit, sugar or cinnamon. I like to think of it as a funnel cake on crack. You can find the recipe HERE. [thibeault's table]

What? Don't look at me like that...

places i need to eat when in nyc: shake shack.

Photobucket
Not sure if anyone knows this about me, but I love grease. I love french fries, fried chicken, and the occasional double cheeseburger from McDonalds. I subscribe to the "A Hamburger Today" newsletter from Serious Eats, and yes, I get super excited every Friday when I find it in the inbox of my email account. My name is Dee and I am fat ass.

Shake Shack
is a New York stable (or so I've been told), Katya told me about this place a couple months ago, and although I've seen their website which showcases some of their famous burgers, nothing has done Shake Shack justice or made me want to eat there more than the above photos from the "A Hamburger Today" newsletter (what? I told you I'm fat).

The Shack Stack consists of two tender grease oozing burgers hugging the hell out of a deep fried portobello mushroom, also known as a "shroom burger", finished off with lettuce tomatoes and Shack Sauce. There probably isn't a need to order fries or a shake with this seeing as the burger is big enough to feed a family, plus I'm not even sure I can wrap my mouth around it, so whenever I get to NYC this will be shared with friends (I'm not THAT fat).

Anyone know anything else awesome about Shake Shack and it's items of greasy glory? Leave it in the comments!

cupcakes!

Photobucket
I've had this itch for a good cupcake this week. Not sure where I'm going to go to satisfy this urge, but this picture from Lisa over at Smiley's Sweet Treats & Creations (mouth full?) isn't helping at all. Makes me want a burger AND a cupcake....

UPDATE: If you'd like to know how Lisa managed to create these, word has it she used vanilla and chocolate cupcakes for the bun and burger, coconut as the lettuce, yellow and red tinted frosting for the ketchup and cheese, and topped it all off with sesame seeds applied with a little water and sugar. Happy Cooking!

places i need to eat when in nyc: fatty crab.

Photobucket
I'm a huge fan of food. No one can ever say I'm one of those girls that don't like to eat, because that is a lie that will never be true. Aside from the Food Network being one of my favorite channels of meaningless television to watch, and counting Paula Dean as someone who I'd like to be friends with, I also really love reading food and restaurant guides. There are so many amazing blogs out there totally dedicated to experimenting with various cultural eateries. One of my favorites Bionic Bites recently reviewed a restaurant in New York called Fatty Crab.

The cool thing about Fatty Crab, besides it's laid back atmosphere is that you can act like a 4 year old child and eat everything with your hands. Knives and forks aren't permitted, and sharing is definitely encouraged. All entrees are meant to be shared and come out as they're ready. Just imagine a table with a couple of friends and tons of food. Perfect.

I'm making a list of places I want to eat with my friend Katya when I visit/intern/probably stay forever in New York this January, with Fatty Crab is right at the top of that list. Anyone know any other delicious places to dine or snack in NYC? Put it in the comments so it can go on my list!

This motorcycle bag makes me want to reach out and touch it. The leather looks soft and supple, and I'm digging it details and the size, big bags are totally my thing. It looks big enough to carry my entire life in it.

Best part, it's only $68. Yes, that's right $68...Add to bag!

Nike Sportswear welcomed a new Air Max 1 Premium inspired by Brazilian state Pernambuco. In my opinion the best part of the shoe other than the ill clear sole (haven't seen that in awhile) is the quote on the back of the shoe: "...Esta Manis No Mesmo Lugar" which means "one step ahead and you are no longer in the same place". Nice!

the black dahlia.

Photobucket

I'm sitting here watching The Black Dahlia, and I'm barely paying attention to the plot of the film, what I'm paying attention to is the fashion. The movie takes place in the 1940s/50s, a time when old Hollywood glamour reigned supreme. It was the time of tiny waists, pencil skirts, and very ladylike silhouettes. I found this editorial awhile ago on Trend.land, shot by a favorite of mine Steven Meisel, with Viktoriya Sasonkina modeling for Vogue Italia back in 2008. It accurately depicts why old Hollywood glamour is a style still being sought after today.

ayo maestro!

I'm currently doing my girly wave that I only take out during the occasional flirtatious encounter. If you don't know about Levi Maestro you probably haven't been reading my blog, but there's no better time than the present, so get educated quick, before he blows up, during which time I'll gladly say, 'I told you so..'
Don't judge me...

made her think made me squeal.

During my daily wandering around the interwebs I've come to notice several things about myself as a consumer. For one, I'm totally addicted to accessories. Not that I never noticed this little fact about myself, but my intense love affair for add on's has never once been this extensive. I could care less about clothing, other than to obsess over the fact that I can't and will not pay upwards of $200 for a tshirt (ahem, Alexander Wang), but it's the shoes, the jewels, the little timeless pieces that normally get my undivided attention.

Made Her Think is a jewelry line designed by Meredith Kahn, and partly inspired by Mexico's Day of the Dead. As seen on the likes of some of my favorite girl crushes Rihanna and the Olsen Twins, the line carry's an obscene amount of inventive and affordable pieces that can add character to even the blandest of outfits. This Knuckle Buster Talon ring is easy on the eyes and for about $110 won't hurt your recession drained pocket. Add to bag? I think so!

Call me crazy, but I'm drooling over jewelry designers Mackenzie & Rachel of San Francisco based jewelry line Litter. Their designs are inventive, edgy, and surprisingly not terribly taxing on the recession drained pocket. I'm especially inspired by their line of shoe jewelry, a concept I've never wanted to experience until now. Among my favorites are the Spike Ring (which will obviously get me in trouble once someone pisses me off) which retails for only $40, and the Walk the Line shoe jewels for $89. Making a wish list and checking it twice for these goods.
