oh amy. please stop using crack ok?

No seriously. When am I going to get the chance to hear more from this beautiful artist. It's kills me a bit when I think of all the phenomenal music we're missing out on from not only Amy Winehouse, but also Lauryn Hill. These women are classics in the making, although in my world they're already considered that...beyond classic. I just wish life and the music industry didn't turn so many people into lunatics...

"To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get use to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty in its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all to watch. To try and understand. To never looking away. And never, never to forget" - Arundhati Roy

"Love is such a novelty, a rarely painted masterpiece, a place few people go or even know. A underwater rocket love, exactly what I'm searching for; you're brave enough to go, so tell me so..."

girl crush| tilda swinton.

Image and video hosting by TinyPicImage and video hosting by TinyPic

Anyway, the reason I'm posting these photos of Tilda Swinton is because I'm a bit obsessed with her. Well, her face anyway. No, I take that back, I love all of her. Every bit. She's flawless. I've argued with many in defense of my undying devotion to Swinton, mostly because people tend to think she's a bit quirky, for lack of a better word. Well, I think she's perfection. A bit odd, and completely androgynous, but I believe that's a big part of her allure; she's not like everyone else. But then again, why in the hell would she want to be like everyone else. I know I wouldn't.

nars celebrates 15 years with a few friends.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
The bain of my existence (in the best way possible) and also my wallets arch nemesis Nar's is celebrating their 15th anniversary by combining two of my favorite things, photography and makeup in their new book 15x15. With portraits of famous friends and inspiration behind their famous beauty products, the makeup impresario François Nars features 15 of his closest pals, the likes of which include Marc Jacobs, Naomi Campbell, Daphne Guinness, and Natasha Poly. Due out in November only 1500 copies of the book will be hand numbered and sold on the anniversary website 15x15project.com. [WWD]

I've been away for awhile, but I'm back. Wasn't very sure if I could retain the blogging mojo I had before taking this forced break, but this surprise got me out of my funk. Sort of... Here are more photos from German Vogue's 30th anniversary issue featuring my favorite Freja Beha alongside Baptiste Giaconi and Heidi Mount due out October 09. There's nothing like a bit of Freja to brighten up even my darkest of moods ::le sigh:: <-- © Kevin Clark for the reference (told you I'd give credit where it's due lol) [modelcouture]

I love Zoe Saldana. She's stunning, and whoever dresses her is a genious. She's classic and chic, and it doesn't look like it takes much for her personality to shine through. I hope Hollywood gives her the fame she deserves because from the looks of her interviews, magazine articles, and movies, she's down to earth and level headed even though her resume suggests she doesn't have to be. I was reading this forum and one of the participants said she reminds her of Jada Pinkett Smith. I personally don't see it, but what do you all think? [tfs]

sarah mcColgan will shoot you.

Sometimes I wonder if Sarah McColgan realizes how stunning she is, I mean LOOK at her! As a photographer it's her job to make sure her subjects look their best, but I wish she'd get in front of the camera a little more. Look at those features! She's one of my favorite fashion photographers, right up there with Mert & Marcus and Emma Summerton...

Check her out at Sarah McColgan and -->[youmehim&her]

holy girl crush, natalie portman is amazing!

I just got through reading Natalie Portman's interview with Interview Magazine where she talk to Jake Gyllenhaal about her childhood fear of the Smurfs, her night out with Jay Z where they went to a laser show, and her favorite food: Carvel ice cream cake. The interview, although super random at times, was so refreshing. I've always admired the way Interview conducts their interviews. By having a celebrity interview another celebrity, it lets us have a peek at a different dimension of that person. The celebrity seems more relaxed, open, and more fun than if they were talking to a journalist where all their answers can sometimes seem calculated and predictable.

Probably the best portion of Portman's interview was when Jake asked her what song describes her current state. Her answer was:

PORTMAN: My current state . . . I’m trying to think of a song that feels like sleepwalking. [laughs] I don’t know. I’ve mostly been listening to dirty rap lately. That’s sort of my scene.

GYLLENHAAL: Your affection for dirty rap is something that people really don’t know about you, which I think is fascinating. You do incredible things for the world, and then you listen to just completely obscene hip-hop music.

PORTMAN: Really, really obscene hip-hop. I love it so much. It makes me laugh and then it makes me want to dance. Those are like my two favorite things, so combined . . . I’ve been listening a lot lately to “Wait (The Whisper Song)” by the Ying Yang Twins, where the lyrics are like, “Wait ’til you see my dick”—which is just amazing because it’s whispered. [whispers] “Wait ’til you see my dick . . . ” [laughs] Crazy. So I just listen to it like I’m a five-year-old, like, “Oh my god! I can’t believe he just said that!”

GYLLENHAAL: It’s interesting that you think the lyric “Wait ’til you see my dick” describes your current state. I think people are learning more about you right now then they ever have in an interview. I’m proud of that.

Every time I think of Natalie Portman I think of that SNL skit she did where she rapped and threw chairs at people. SO COOL! [interview]

garance doré x GAP.

Photobucket
There are a lot of fashion obsessed women and girls alike who flock to personal style blogs daily. Blogs such as Rumi Neely's fashiontoast or Jane Aldrige and Sea of Shoes to name a few. I am not one of these girls. There are only a few blogs I can stomach on a daily basis. Especially when it comes to personal style, because now a days everyone sort of looks the same. When I find something I love, I stick to it like weave glue to a scalp. You have to literally scrape me off bit by bit to make me leave. Garance Doré is a blog I've been stomaching for about 2 years now, and it never gets old. She's got the best eye for photographing the most impeccably dressed people.

For the Gap's 40th Anniversary they've asked Garance to put together photos, drawings, and anything else she can pull out of her Chanel magic bag, for an exhibition that will take place in London during their Fashion Week. The exhibition will be on Carnaby Street beginning September 21st in a pop up store that will exclusively sell other creations by the likes of Pierre Hardy and my favorite dirty old man Pharrel Willams.

The tee's created by Garance and the Gap are super limited in quantity. As in only 69 of each style was manufactured. In other words, THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL I'M GETTING ONE. Excuse me while I go weep in a corner...[garancedoré]

i will always love you...

Photobucket
The biggest girl crush of my 23 years of life has been on the Olsen twins. I SERIOUSLY love the Olsen twins. A lot. Sometimes I like to think we grew up together, it's just that instead of playing with me in the preschool sand box, they were inside my television as Michelle Tanner. They've grown up to become so stylish and smart women; so smart in fact, they've created two brands, The Row and Elizabeth & James, that are widely successful, even though just looking at the clothes costs more than what's in my bank account right now.

Ashley is my favorite. Although sometimes Mary Kate surprises me and doesn't look like she rolled out of bed in the back alley of some dirty club, Ashley and I are destined to be besties (and I say that, not as a stalker, but as a fan). In the face of tremendous pressure, the twins have grown to be such exceptional women. The exude confidence and cool. Most celebrities have a way of being TOO noticeable by being everywhere at once. You get sick of seeing them. But there's just something about these girls I can't seem to get enough of, maybe it's the fact that aside from the paparazzi basically stalking them, or a fashion show/event here or there, you rarely see them in front of a camera.

Right now I'm working on that thing I call the Olsen Smirk, where they stare down the camera, suck in their cheeks, and purse their lips. If you look at pictures of them long enough, you'll see it...Makes me laugh every time.

I still can't get over the fact that Lara Stone has brunette hair. Her editorial in the September issue of Vogue Paris is flawless. It was styled by editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld, and shot by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggot. [fashiongonerouge]

Aside from being the Accessories Editor at Teen Vogue, Taylor Tomasi is one of my style heroes. Every time she's on a street style blog like Jak&Jil or the Satorialist, I cut, paste, and save her photos because she's super inspirational. This is probably going to sound a little weird, but I absolutely LOVE the way she layers things. She makes it look so effortless.

"My best tip for jump starting a career in fashion is to take an internship very seriously -- and if you love where you are working, try to stay there as long as possible. Showing initiative may lead to something more. Working in fashion, however is not always as glamorous as what you see on television. It's very demanding, high stress environment -- but if you thrive under pressure, it may be the perfect fit for you."

lara? is that you?

Photobucket
Lara Stone: Karl Lagerfeld's girl pal, Carine Roitfeld's favorite cover girl, and my model girl crush. Aside from being the 'it' girl of the moment (and causing an uproar when it was discovered she wears a US size 6), Lara has been hard at work getting totally made over. It actually took a minute for me to recognize her, but I love love LOVE her brunette.

Which look do you like best for Lara?
