proenza schouler's got a new ad campaign.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Yay for this!
I love Proenza Schouler with a capital WHOA.
But I'm not sure about this campaign.
Where's the color?
The vibrancy?

Their collection for Fall/Winter 2010 was the uniform for a school girl gone downtown, and although I think the campaign represents that, it would've been so nice to see some color.

Is that too much to ask for?
Oh well, I still love it!

I don't know what to say right now.
My jaw is on the ground.
Literally.

Riccardo Tisci has outdone himself once again.
Taking nothing and creating something spectacular.
Such beautiful craftsmanship.
Still creating beautiful works of art.
Still numero uno in my h.e.a.r.t.
Still my favorite designer.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I love when people design things that aren't complicated. I like when people create things that are fun, fresh, and full of personality. I like this. A lot. Dion Lee you are amazing.

eighteenth nyc fall 2010.

Image and video hosting by TinyPicImage and video hosting by TinyPicImage and video hosting by TinyPicImage and video hosting by TinyPic
Today was the first really nice day in awhile here in Pittsburgh. No three minute thunder showers and clear skies all day; the perfect kind of weather for sundresses, open toe shoes, and ice cold beverages. So why am I already looking forward to the Fall? I think it has something to do with how backwards my mind can be sometimes. As much as I love the summer months, nothing puts me in a better mood than the Fall. The leaves, crisp weather, new collections............

That's right. New collections. New fashion. New everything!

If you read this blog on a semi regular basis you should know about my undying love for Eighteenth NYC and it's creator Alexa Galler. It took a moment for me to compose myself after checking out the pictures for the brands impending Fall/Winter 2010 collection. I lost my breath, started sweating, and got a bit dizzy just from staring at the pictures so hard on my computer screen. Truly mesmerizing don't you think?

I think the construction of clothing is so much more important than how one puts it together. Anyone can follow trends, but if the clothes they're wearing aren't constructed to the best of their abilities, it really doesn't matter what the hell you're wearing. Does that make any sense? Anyway, this is a big reason why I don't shop at places like Forever XXI anymore. Yes, the clothes are nicely priced which allows you to purchase more, but they fall apart so quickly. I've never had anything from that store that's lasted more than a few months. I've learned to save my pennies for more items that may be a bit more expensive, but stand the test of time. Classic always overrides trendy, that's a big reason why collections such as Kostas Murkudis always catch my eye. If you love using your imagination the collection is wearable, boasting classic cuts and silhouettes that never seem to go out of style.

Not your typical color palate for a Autumn/Winter collection, but seriously, who said Fall is the designated season of browns, burgundy's and other muted colors. I actually prefer Spetic's interpretation of the season with it's highly constructed cream blazers and pops of lilac and bright orange. Spices things up a bit, don't you think? Specifically I'm on the man hunt for the over sized cardigans. Big retarded buttons are so my thing.

I just counted how many pairs of sunglasses I've bought in the last 6 months. The total is 18. I'm not sure why, I've never been one to hoard accessories, but I've recently been running into some awesome shades I haven't been able to pass up. These Giuliano Fuijiwara Fall 2010 glasses are something I'm probably never going to acquire enough money for, but are certainly outstanding to look at. These are so impressive I'm not even sure what to say. No seriously, I'm at a loss for words.

the Gap is blowing my mind!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I've been shopping at the Gap for practically my entire life, but I've never taken a moment to think of the retailer as something other than a place to get a good tshirt. And trust me, I've got closets full of their soft tee's, dependable denim, and occasional yoga pant. The Gap has been good to me over the years, but when to comes down to blowing my mind through design, well that's a feat they've failed to achieve. Until about 5 minutes ago...

Pierre Hardy has done a couple of collaborations with Gap, but since my mind is stuck on the fact that I go there for the tee's that end up on my floor, I'd never taken the time to actually notice how wonderful the Hardy collections happened to be. For the Fall 2010 season the Gap x Pierre Hardy shoes are giving me serious heart palpitations. I'm over here dying of excitement you guys! I've got no idea when I'll be able to get my hands on any pair of these shoes or even what the price points look like - but trust me - I'll have them all. That's a promise!

why are you ramming clogs down my throat?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Has anyone else noticed that whatever trends glide down the runway, no matter how ridiculous or dated they may seem, become fashion law moments after the critics give their two (or five, depending on which critic) cents on a collection. Seriously, it doesn't matter how off hand or completely insane something may seem (temporary tattoos and obscene amounts of velvet included), if it's designed by the right company, seen in the right magazines and on the right people, everyone flocks towards it.

The trend in question is "new and slightly modern" version of the clog. I just got through reading about Opening Ceremony's Fall 2010 collection which includes their updated version of the clog. I happen to dig what they've done to the shoe, but what disturbed me the most was that not only was I looking at OC's version and the accompanying article, but I was also accosted with a side advertisement for the Topshop 'Seanna' closed toe clogs. I've got nothing against clogs or those who happen to love wearing them, but I'm dumbfounded at how many people are jumping on the band wagon and how quickly it's happening. A vast amount of high middle and low end brands are clogging it up, and in the process giving me a headache. Is this the new 'it' shoe? Are people seriously going to wear these things? And why in the hell are all these magazines and websites force feeding me this shoe? Why?!

Marketing is such an amazing thing...

walk like a man: chloé fall 2010

I've never been a fan of the color brown. I don't know how this happened, but I've also never fought the disdain I've had for that color and the other members of it's family. I'm more into the darker side of things; coal grey, navy, and my absolute favorite: black. Black blends well with everything, not to mention it makes me look like a size 4 when I'm standing at the right angle. The Chloé Fall 2010 collection is not only making me reconsider my banishment of brown- especially camel brown -it's also made me realize that menswear is coming back in a big way. In a little while I won't be alone in my love for fine tailoring and clean lines. Maybe this means I won't have to search the little boys section of JCrew for the perfect blazer, or catch a few side eyes when I wear my Paul Smith brogues around town.

Thank you GOD! [images via style]
