perhaps the only pair of clogs i'd ever consider wearing.

The last time I was in New York my friend Katya and I managed to pull ourselves away from her black hole of an apartment and drag our lazy behinds down to hipster heaven (otherwise known as Williamsburg) for a bit of vintage shopping and day drinking. While in Williamsburg I couldn't help but notice several haphazardly dressed women (because that's totally in right now...) wearing the elusive trend that's been the biggest buzz this season and happens to be showing up on the feet of...well everyone: CLOGS.

I've made my peace with this shoe. Not because I don't like it, but more so because I don't understand why they're EVERYWHERE. On fashion celebrities, regular celebrities, in magazines, and on television. I can't get away from these damn shoes. Upon viewing Louis Vuitton's version of the clog during the Spring 2010 shows and literally doing a double take when I noticed Miuccia Prada created a studded plex glass version, (not to mention Chanel) I had no idea they would become so popular...and so quickly. I'd never considered taking part in the clog movement, (personally I think they'd look a bit ridiculous on my feet), but after spotting the Rachel Comey 'Dekalb' clogs courtesy of my good friend Ebay, I'm actually considering riding this wave.

Sort of...

have the roles been reversed?

I can't explain how many times I've asked myself this question, so I've started to ask everyone BUT myself:

Are the roles reversing as far as men and womens fashion is concerned?

I'm a big fan of Scott Schuman and his website the Sartorialist. As far as the concept of the style blog goes, he's at the forefront of the pack photographing everyone who inspires him regardless of status. Where I get a kick out of seeing my favorite fashion celebrities and how they wear their clothes (thank you Jak&Jil), I'm fascinated more by everyday people because, let's be honest, their just like me. Basic in every aspect other than what they have on their backs.

Very recently Scott took several photos of men in skirts, and although for the everyday man that concept is a bit emasculating, these several men pulled the look off (in the manliest way possible). With menswear on the everyday woman quickly becoming popular in the last few years (hello boyfriend jeans!), I've decided to ask the one question that's been bugging me for awhile now: Are the roles reversing in men's and women's fashion?

Furthermore, where on one hand I love looking like a well dressed man who happens to have a vagina, I can't help but wish the fashion industry was more diverse in the trends they set. For instance, edge does not equal leather all the time, and bohemia can be achieved without looking homeless. I wish that more people understood that you don't have to look one way or another, that there is such a concept as treading the line. Schuman also posed a invaluable question on his website that concerned whether women preferred dressing like the Celine woman (menswear on crack) or the Louis Vuitton woman (Joan Cleaver circa 1950). The Celine woman is what every woman wants to be right now. Strong, independent, and on a mission with a sense of purpose, while the Louis Vuitton woman is said to be what men want women to be: sexy, sophisticated, and lady like.

I'm quite torn about this one...

Marc Jacobs put the lady back in ladylike for Louis Vuitton's Fall 2010 presentation. Maybe this will compel some of us to actually look like women instead of trash can inhabitants or drag queens - not that there is anything remotely wrong with looking like you just woke up from behind a dumpster, or people questioning what's between your legs - I'm just happy someone decided to go classic instead of the trendy. Sometimes it's better to recycle and reinvent visions instead of constantly outdoing ourselves when we invent new ones.

Sometimes I think I have a baby Joan Jett living alongside a baby Joan Cleaver inside my brain. If this doesn't make sense, it's alright...I don't get it either.

Sidenote: Although I think the overall collection is ahhhhmazing, those A - lines aren't flattering on everyone. Especially not those blessed with enough ass to feed a small country (ahem: me). It's a nice thought though...

I don't even vibe with Louis Vuitton all that much, I think the monogram can get a bit redundant, but I've got to be honest, their accessories for Spring 2010 are hot! I'm really impressed, what do you think? [style.com]

what does this remind me of?

I have a love/hate relationship with Louis Vuitton. Most of the time I get a kick out of hating that damn monogram everyone and their significant other runs around with, but as of late it's been really hard for me to come up with a sarcastic comment from the inner sanctums of my mind because I'm actually beginning to dig some of their products. Until now...

The Daisy Necklace from LV's Fall 2009 collection reminds me of Christmas. Why, you ask? Well, in my household Christmas involves spiked eggnog, money, and tree decorations, specifically the paper chain garland that wrapped around the tree made from scraps of construction paper lying around our house. It's nice to know that you can pretty much take any idea slap a logo on it, and turn around and sell it for $1050 USD. Good job LV! [ilvoelv]

Paris Fashion Week may be over, but the vivid images from the shows and beyond are basically etch-a-sketched in my mind. Here are some of my favorite street style pics, including Liu Wen exiting the shoes, a brand spanking new LV bag not even 24 hours after it's debut, and finally the shoe stylings of Emmanuel Alt, Melanie Huynh, and Julia Von Boehm. Paris fashion week is my favorite of all the fashion weeks. Not to place anyone on a totem pole or anything, but with Paris you never really know what you're going to get with designers, but you know its got to be good because the best of the best show up and show out. All the luxury brands you can count on your fingers and toes pull the most amazing ideas out of their behinds. Forget the fashion for a moment, and just think about how these designers come up with the concept of their shows. Alexander McQueen a weirdo in his own right, and Mar Jacobs for Louis Vuitton are two of my favorite shows from the Spring 2010 season of Paris Fashion Week. McQueen is probably one of the most innovative designers of our time, never failing to take fashion and turn them into works of art, while LV keeps it fun and engaging. [coutorture]
