reinventing the tshirt by: eighteenth

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Where in theory I'm drawn to outrageous designs and color galore, in reality I'm just a jeans and tshirt girl. On any given occasion you'll find my closet filled with flats, cardigans, skinny jeans, and my staple item: the v neck tshirt. It's often times very hard for me to find 'the perfect tee', partly because I'm extremely picky about fit, color, texture, and price points. On the one hand I've been known to pay good money for quality, I've never been partial to paying an obscene amount of money simply for a name. On the rare occasion I can find a tee that bares originality and comes a decent price, I'm known to buy as many as possible.

New York city based brand Eighteenth just released pictures of their forthcoming Spring 2010 collection dedicated to reinventing the classic tshirt. Drastic asymmetrical cuts are complimented by the soft jersey of the tee's in basic black and white. Perfect for the summer months (the designs are amazing and you're skin can actually breathe in them), Eighteenth is available right now online at Anica and will soon be ready for purchase online and in store at Oak, Bona Drag and Des Kohan. The price points are affordable - especially against heavy hitter diffusion lines such as T by Alexander Wang draining pockets - and the quality of the clothing is beyond superb. So you'd better get to it, because if you don't...I will. Believe that.

places i need to eat when in nyc: shake shack.

Photobucket
Not sure if anyone knows this about me, but I love grease. I love french fries, fried chicken, and the occasional double cheeseburger from McDonalds. I subscribe to the "A Hamburger Today" newsletter from Serious Eats, and yes, I get super excited every Friday when I find it in the inbox of my email account. My name is Dee and I am fat ass.

Shake Shack
is a New York stable (or so I've been told), Katya told me about this place a couple months ago, and although I've seen their website which showcases some of their famous burgers, nothing has done Shake Shack justice or made me want to eat there more than the above photos from the "A Hamburger Today" newsletter (what? I told you I'm fat).

The Shack Stack consists of two tender grease oozing burgers hugging the hell out of a deep fried portobello mushroom, also known as a "shroom burger", finished off with lettuce tomatoes and Shack Sauce. There probably isn't a need to order fries or a shake with this seeing as the burger is big enough to feed a family, plus I'm not even sure I can wrap my mouth around it, so whenever I get to NYC this will be shared with friends (I'm not THAT fat).

Anyone know anything else awesome about Shake Shack and it's items of greasy glory? Leave it in the comments!

fuck a recession. dreams are limitless.

During all the studying, the struggling, the grinding I do on a regular basis my one goal and objective has been to move to New York and get my foot in the business of writing. About what? Fashion, entertainment, music, art, whatever. I've got so many dreams it's hard to keep up with them, but one dream that has never ever wavered is my undying love of all things NYC and this one little goal I have of making it there.

I know it seems a bit far fetched, but in my world if I can make it there I can make it just about anywhere. NY Mag has an article about why people are moving to one of the most expensive city's to live in during this asshole of a recession. And I think I have the answer...

When I told my Dad I wanted to move to New York he asked me why. Why can't I write in a city like Pittsburgh, Chicago, or California for all intents and purposes. And I told him this: New York is like a big boiling pot of opportunity. Its the only place where I've felt ANYTHING is possible. It's just about the only place I've traveled to where people are 100% open to different cultures and lifestyles, which is important to me because sometimes where I live people just don't seem to get what I'm about. That part sucks. People sometimes aren't open minded enough to accept or even embrace being different or living outside the boxes life sometimes places around us. New York gets me, and damnit I'm going to get New York. Even if the shit kills me...

Fuck a recession. Dreams are limitless...

this makes me a little sad.

Joe Budden & friends talk/argue about how much it costs to live comfortably in NYC.

This makes me a little sad for a couple different reasons:
1. Eventually I'd like to get a job and experience living in NYC only because I think it will be a nice life experience.
2. One of my customers just told me yesterday that she spent most of her time in New York grinding like a one armed slave just to make rent every month. She never really got to enjoy her time there.
3. Now I'm thinking about a different plan...

$5o,000 a  year will make you poor? WTF?
