the spoken word is unreliable.

"When you speak, you are speaking in the moment and prone to mistakes, and once the words come out of your mouth they are gone forever, or lodged in the memory of others, where they can be twisted or misconstrued. but the written word, it can be carefully fashioned. See, you can take your time with it. It lasts. Nobody is putting you on the spot. You write something down, there is power in it exactly because you have taken the time to write it down.

More than kisses, letters mingle souls."

true story.

"You talk when you cease to be at peace with your thoughts; and when you can no longer dwell in the solitude of your heart you live in your lips, and sound is a diversion and a pastime. And in much of your talking, thinking is half murdered. For thought is a bird of space, that in a cage of words may indeed unfold its wings but cannot fly." [Khalil Gilbran, The Prophet]

"She needs a new journal. The one she has is problematic. To get to the present, she needs to page through the past, and when she does, she remembers things, and her new journal entries become, for the most part, reactions to the days she regrets, wants to correct, rewrite."

I've been trying to figure out a spectacular way to store my growing collection of literature. I'm half tempted to stop trying to use my brain and just recreate this amazing room. [via]

If you've seen Sex and the City (The Movie!), and were actually paying attention to anything besides the clothing or the fact that Sarah Jessica Parker looked like Skeletor without pants on (barf), then you would have heard her mention the book Love Letters of Great Men. It's an exceptional read, especially if you're apart of that jaded/cynical variety of people who believe 'falling in love' is like catching herpes, or something that comes around about as often as the Swine Flu.

This kinda made me cry like a hormonal bitch today.
And I don't care.

olympia le-tan| my inner nerd is satisfied!

About a year ago I started purchasing journals made from antique book covers created by ShePinTea of Etsy, and all the while I was wondering what else one could do with classic book covers. Then about a week ago while surfing Crackbook, I came across a picture of Natalie Portman (girl crush!) sporting an original Lolita clutch by French designer Olympia Le-Tan expertly created and inspired by the cover of Nabokov's classic novel and one of my favorite books. Since then I've become a bit obsessed with finding a way for me to create my own treasure from the books crowding the walls of my bedroom.

Christmas is near.
I want.

[begin thoughtful quote]

"So I'm going out there.
And I'm going to do the best I can.
People are going to get in my way.
Things are going to bring me down.
But I'm going to keep going.
I'm going to reach as far as I can, for everything I've ever wanted.
And I'm not going to give up.
Because that's what you do when your dreams are more important than your fears.
You go out there and ignore the odds.
You focus on one thing -
That your dreams come true."

To infinity and beyond.

[begin thoughtful quote]

"Perhaps, after all, romance did not come into one's life with pomp and glare,
like a gay knight riding down;
perhaps it crept to one's side like an old friend through quiet ways;
perhaps it revealed itself in seeming prose,
until some sudden shaft of illumination flung athwart its pages betrayed by the rhythm and the music,
perhaps...perhaps love unfolded naturally out of a beautiful friendship,
as a golden hearted rose slipping from it's green sheath."

L.M. Montgomery (Anne of Avonlea)

[end thoughtful quote]

Perhaps we all just never see it coming.

the truth according to j.d.

"Among other things, you'll find that you're not the first person who was ever confused and frightened and even sick of human behavior. You're by no means alone on that score, you'll be excited and stimulated to know. Many, many men have been just as trouble morally and spiritually as you are right now. Happily, some of them kept records of their troubles. You'll learn from them." (J.D. Salinger)

I posted this quote on the day J.D. Salinger died back in January.
I posted it again today because I needed it.
I'm reading Isabelle Eberhardt right now because I think she's one of those people that kept a record of her struggle.
I hope this helps you as much as it's helping me.

the tension of opposites.

"Life is a series of pulls back and forth. You want to do one thing, but you are bound to something else. Something hurts you, yet you know it shouldn't. You take certain things for granted, even when you know you should never take anything for granted. A tension of opposites, like a pull on a rubber band. And most of us live somewhere in the middle." (Tuesdays with Morrie)

success.

Where there is Life,
there is Hope;
Where there is Hope,
there is Trust;
Where there is Trust,
there is Love;
Where there is Love,
there is Faith,
Where there is Faith,
there is Success,
Where there is Success,
there is God.

Greatest book everrrrrr.

The Catcher in the Rye is one of my favorite books. People keep dropping like flies out here. Sad...

you can read?!

I kid!

I've taken my "block Kanye West" shades off for a moment to post this tiny bit of information I accidentally fell into. The pop star is taking some time off to clear his head and get his mind right, but before he does, he's releasing this book of photography from his Glow in the Dark tour shot by Nabil Elderkin. I'm a nerd at heart, a total freak for books, I happen to love and own lots of them, especially photography books because I'm a total stan for the camera. The book includes around 400 pictures, an interview with collaborator Spike Jonze (who's brilliant by the way), and a CD with unreleased music. The list of goodies goes on, but if you like what you see the book is being released October 20, 2009 at literary retailers for $50.

If you're smart like I am and strapped for cash you can pre-order the book for only $31.50 from Amazon. [kanyeuniversity]
