"You must write every single day of your life. You must lurk in libraries to sniff books like perfumes and wear books like hats upon your crazy head. May you be in love everyday for the next 20,000 days. And out of that love, remake a world." -Ray Bradbury

[begin thoughtful poetic rant]

From ancient worlds I come
to see what man has done
what's fact and what is fiction
to judge to contradiction.

The future has begun
much work is to be done
you're running out of time
beware the silent sign.

Exploring new dimension
new lifestyle my intention
do not ignore advice;
You hold the key to life. - Klaus Nomi

It's hard to shop vintage via the internet.
It's a lot harder than I thought.

There are very few sites solely dedicated to vintage merchandise; or at least vintage merchandise that I actually want to buy. Supermarket Sarah is the online shop of a former corporate slave who decided to ditch 'the man' and work for herself finding and reselling vintage clothing and accessories along with art and home furnishings from the small time designers she fancies.

I love everything.
Poverty here I come.

Dear You.
Have I told you lately how much I love you?
Because I do.
Come live in my closet amongst my favorite things.
It'll be fun, you can converse with my Benetton, my Chloe,
and even have small chat with the Balenciaga I never wear.
Please?
Pretty Please?

Love,
Dee

It's moment's like these when I wish I lived in Sweden.
Seriously.

Monki is amazing. They're style guide basically teaches you how to wear their clothing, a feature that I believe other online retailers should adopt. Monki not only shows you how to put together their clothing, the also allow you to download images for reference, and share your inspiration through Crackbook and Twitter. Net-a-Porter does something similar, but the difference between that brand and Monki is that my pocket book can actually do more than browse; I can buy too.

Do they ship to the US?
That would be grand!

taking a mental dump| dear ke$ha.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Yesterday I downloaded KeSha.

I am ashamed of myself. I don't know what's wrong with me. I mean it's against my religion to listen to people that have dollar signs in their stage names. After one too many drunken sing-a-longs to her annoyingly catchy tune "Your Love Is My Drug" (barf), I stupidly decided to give this self proclaimed garbage chic 'artist' a chance. I mean, there couldn't be any harm in at least giving the girl five minutes of my time and a little space on my hard drive. It's not like she's Satan. Or Hitler. Or George W. Bush. She's just a really bad singer with pop songs that have the power to make me dance like I don't have a brain cell to depend on. I thought I needed to be open minded. I thought I needed to give her a chance.

I was dead ass wrong.

Listening to Ke$ha in my bedroom after an evening of intense alcohol consumption, I felt instantly dumber. It was like my brain was on FIRE. I couldn't understand how listening the same song at a bar could sound so different in the confines of my home. Where did the magic go? What happened?! It was at that moment I learned a valuable lesson; one not only pertaining to Ke$ha, but also to the laundry list of artists I don't listen to or even like unless there is an alcoholic beverage involved. I realized that I only enjoy this music when I'm in the right atmosphere. And by atmosphere I mean bars, bars, bars, and more bars. No wonder Ke$ha made me want to drop down and twirk something. No wonder I can recite practically every single syllable Gucci Mane has ever uttered after a shot of tequila. NO WONDER I KNOW HOW TO SHAKE IT LIKE A SALT SHAKER.

From now until the end of time I need to stay the hell away from cocktails.
It's causing me to make questionable musical choices.
And I can't have that.

for colored girls who have considered suicide when finding out tyler perry was directing this film| numero dos.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide when the Rainbow isn't Enuf, the choreopoem by Ntozake Shange is a brilliant piece of work. So brilliant in fact, that when I find myself reading it once a year, I'm inspired in the same manner as when I first read it back when I was only sixteen years young. When someone mentioned to me a year ago that they were turning one of my favorite pieces of literature into a major motion picture I squealed. Literally. Then, when that same someone mentioned Tyler Perry would be directing I groaned. Literally.

I know he's the token right now among Hollyhood's brightest and biggest directors, but as I've said before he's garbage. I mean, ok, so he can touch a black woman's heart like no one's been able to in recent years, but seriously, what black woman are we talking about? He's not touching my heart. He's giving me a headache. In my mind he creates movies based off stereotypes, most of which I've spent a large portion of my life dispelling. Not every black woman is angry. We all aren't baby mamas or depend on a bullshit men. We all aren't crazy. We all don't have the "Big Mama" mentality, nor do the whole lot of us enjoy being displayed as such beings.

Although Tyler Perry makes me want to stick a couple of fingers down my throat, the cast selection for this film is outstanding. Loretta Devine? Yes. Phylicia Rashad? YES. Kerry Washington, Thandi Newton, Janet Jackson, and Kimberly Elise? ABSOLUTELY.

Maybe I'm being too harsh. Or too cynical. Or maybe even too judgmental. But then again, what the hell do I know? No one seems to portray the plight of the black woman like TP. Ugh.

why search anymore.

"You are what you want to become. Why search anymore? You are a wonderful manifestation. The whole universe has come together to make your existence possible. There is nothing that is not you. The kingdom of God, the Pure Land, nirvana, happiness, and liberation are all you."

"So I'm going out there.
And I'm going to do the best I can.
People are going to get in my way.
Things are going to bring me down.
But I'm going to keep going.
I'm going to reach as far as I can, for everything I've ever wanted.
And I'm not going to give up.
Because that's what you do when your dreams are more important than your fears.
You go out there and ignore the odds.
You focus on one thing -
That your dreams come true."

I have some amazingly talented amigos.
How the hell did I get so lucky?

My former coworker and good friend Charles needed some pictures taken of him for reasons I'm not entirely sure of, so I decided to hook him up with my current coworker and good friend Marcus who happens to be a great photographer. The result of the shoot are so extraordinary I had to post them. I love having amazing buds.

Speaking of fantastic friendships, I'm counting down the days until I journey to the big city (New York!) for a couple days of fuckery with my favorite girls. The world shall implode when Kayta, Rio, Gilah, Randi, Jennifer Farris, Katya, and myself meet to drink, break things, and have tattoo play dates.

November, please get here soon!

Yay for this!
I love Proenza Schouler with a capital WHOA.
But I'm not sure about this campaign.
Where's the color?
The vibrancy?

Their collection for Fall/Winter 2010 was the uniform for a school girl gone downtown, and although I think the campaign represents that, it would've been so nice to see some color.

Is that too much to ask for?
Oh well, I still love it!

W magazine got a make over.
I like it a lot!
Maybe I'll actually read the articles instead of just scanning the editorials.

Maybe.

Kudos to Stefano Tonchi for diversifying his "Hollywood" cover.
Especially considering Vanity Fair doesn't seem to understand what diversity means, let alone what the hell it looks like.

Yea, I think I'll be picking this up.

horses. bacon. people's cartel, oh my!

[I would have written a longer post, but my lack of sleep is catching up to me. This was just too good NOT to write about.]

I thought this weekend was going to be so boring.
Boy, was I ever wrong.

Here's what went down:
My pal Derrick and I decided to explored the South Side in pursuit of hidden treasures that didn't involve alcohol.
We went into Decade, a boutique that has made me go broke plenty of times.
We found out that Roman the brain behind People's Cartel (favorite!) was screen printing custom shirts for $10.
We left, went to the Gap, and bought some tshirts.
I also found a pair of khaki's for $2.97 (total WIN.)
Went back to Decade.
Got a custom v-neck "I 'Steel' Pittsburgh" tee.

Then things got fun.

Derrick decided to ask Roman of PC if he'd make him two shirts.
One with a horse (no joke), because he happens to like horse shirts a lot.
And the other with the word 'Bacon' on it in honor of Pittsburgh's upcoming Bacon Bash.
After a little coaxing, and even more compliments Roman decided to do it.

Here are the results.
My weekend was awesome.

"All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless shall be king."
