[begin thoughtful quote]

"Perhaps, after all, romance did not come into one's life with pomp and glare,
like a gay knight riding down;
perhaps it crept to one's side like an old friend through quiet ways;
perhaps it revealed itself in seeming prose,
until some sudden shaft of illumination flung athwart its pages betrayed by the rhythm and the music,
perhaps...perhaps love unfolded naturally out of a beautiful friendship,
as a golden hearted rose slipping from it's green sheath."

L.M. Montgomery (Anne of Avonlea)

Perhaps we all just never see it coming.

why are twilight soundtracks better than the films?

Beck & Bat For Lashes from Brian Carpenter on Vimeo.

I have nothing against Twilight.
Seriously I don't.

I just wanted to put that out there before throngs of women (because what man actually watches Twilight) come busting into my little home on the internet and rip me to shreds. I have a 14 year old sister that has a heart attack every time a new Twilight movie opens, and has tried very hard to explain to me why Team Edward is for losers and Team Jacob is where it's at. So don't worry, I know all about the hysteria. I'm just not apart of it.

Moving forward.

The only part of Twilight mania that I actually get down with is the soundtracks for the movies. They get better and more amazing as the saga continues. The above song by Beck and Bat for Lashes off the Eclipse soundtrack is perfect. I've been listening to it for months now and can't stop.

Join the hysteria.

I'd give up just about anything for a chance to look at, let alone touch or buy these shoes.
No joke.

I'm not even a big fan of Christian Louboutin, simply because I think there are far more footwear designers that aren't (cough) overly hyped up. Seems like everyone has a pair (or at least a pair of knock offs) to call they're own. I may not be a complete believer in the CL dynasty, but these are heavenly.

[begin thoughtful quote]

"Have you ever been in love?
Horrible isn't it?
It makes you so vulnerable.
It opens your chest and it opens your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up.
You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life...

You give them a piece of you.
They didn't ask for it.
They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore.
Love takes hostages.
It gets inside you.
It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so a simple phrase like 'maybe we should just be friends' turns into a class splinter working it's way into your heart.

It hurts.
Not just in the imagination.
Not just in the mind.
Its a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain.
I hate love."

No seriously.
Why can't they all just look this good?
It would be great for the female population of the world.
And really, isn't that all that matters?

Wait.
If I was honest with myself, I'm the person that wants to look like this.

If you're into the psyche, or happen to know about Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, then this will be intriguing to you. And even if you have no idea who the hell Maslow is or don't understand why anyone would create a heirarchy of anything; this will still make you laugh.

Funny thing is, I can't seem to get past the Fail level.

Or is it something they can never believe?
Or is it something you can never achieve?
Is it
beyond your means
is it
inside your dreams
can it
never come out cause it's scared to
unprepared to?
Too worried about the words of the people it's weird,
you don't want them to hear you
you just wish there was a door that would appear
that you can go disappear through.

[begin thoughtful rant]

When I decide to love something or someone, I make the conscious decision to love hard.
Life is too short to be wasted on indecision.
There is no point in loving slowly, or softly.
No point in loving something over time.
No point in shaping your love to fit a certain situation.
Especially when time is promised to no one.
You never know when you'll have your last day here.
Take your last breath.

The concept of love can take us to new heights, and the lowest of lows.
It has the possibility of bending or even breaking our hearts.
It can take us to places we aren't sure we'll ever come back from.

But somehow, we always come back.
Somehow, I'm always coming back.

Love is so real.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
I've been meaning to post this for awhile now, so after staring at the photographs last night for what seemed like an eternity, I decided to for once to stop staring and start sharing, so here they are. I may not be a huge fan of Tom Ford eyewear, but I'm indeed a groupie for Freja Beha Erichsen. Especially because she's got that 70's shag carpet hairstyle I'd just like to run my fingers through! I'm so glad people are finally getting with the program and giving her magazine covers and campaigns. As much as I love seeing her muse it up with Chanel, I think she has so much more potential. The Cut recently proclaimed this the summer of Freja, and I for one, am totally on board for that train.

the truth according to j.d.

"Among other things, you'll find that you're not the first person who was ever confused and frightened and even sick of human behavior. You're by no means alone on that score, you'll be excited and stimulated to know. Many, many men have been just as trouble morally and spiritually as you are right now. Happily, some of them kept records of their troubles. You'll learn from them." (J.D. Salinger)

I posted this quote on the day J.D. Salinger died back in January.
I posted it again today because I needed it.
I'm reading Isabelle Eberhardt right now because I think she's one of those people that kept a record of her struggle.
I hope this helps you as much as it's helping me.

hermit & the frog| marina & the diamonds.

I listen to a lot of music.

Any moment I'm not around people, and sometimes in the off chance that I actually am, I'm listening to music. It's powerful how there are songs for every mood I have (and there are tons) and every situation I see myself in (I've got a boat load of those as well). At the beginning of this summer I started listening to Marina & the Diamonds pretty heavily, and haven't taken a breather from her voice since. Lord knows there aren't enough hours, minutes, or seconds in a day to explain how much I've been consumed with every track, every single lyric, or her voice which reminds me of a mixture of Fergie and Jesus (Catalina wine mixer!). While listening to this album yet again today, I decided to stop hoarding this amazing singer share the effing wealth.

So here's a sample of my insanity.
Make it your own, because I sure have...

the turbanator.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
I've been told that I have a hat head. I'm not entirely sure what that means, but I do know that hats and other subsequent head gear looks lovely on the days I just don't care. Recently I've decided that in the last month of summer and well into the fall I shall be rocking the turban. It's the best way to hide the hot mess my hair has become because of this humid weather. A couple of years ago I was obsessed with scarves, so with drawers and bins full of beautiful fabric I don't utilize anymore, why wouldn't I take full advantage? I'm not alone in love for turbans either. I've already discussed the situation in full with Katya. She and I are in agreement that the turban will be our crown of glory in the coming months. Get with it people...

taking a mental dump| numero uno.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
I have a huge brain. Not all of it is filled with bright shiny objects and ideas. A lot of my brain is consumed with thoughts; things ranging from the meaningless - whether or not I forgot to unplug my flat iron - all the way down the pretty terrifying (what the fuck AM I really doing with my life). Most of the time I can handle the overload, all it takes is a cocktail and a book to take my mind off of, well...my mind, but this time I thought it'd be fun to share the crazy with the interwebs because of it's therapeutic qualities...........................

(blank. stare)

I'm addicted to Tumblr.
No seriously I think I'm officially an addict. A couple months ago I scoffed at the idea of Tumblr. I mean, who really wants a "blog" that you just post pictures on? Who really wants a hassle free way to share your favorite music, video, quotes, and photos while also having the option to reblog your favorite things from other Tumblrs? I wanted that and I didn't even know it. Now before I check my email, I check my Tumblr. I reblog like it's my job. I follow like a pre-teen looking up to Miley Cyrus. I change themes about as often as I change underwear. It's bad. Real bad.

I got Photoshop!
I feel like a new woman. I feel like the dark shadow that was looming over my head like a bad dye job is now lifted. Completely removed. Gone forever. I will never again not be able to resize my gigantic photos. I can download fonts and actually have a place to use them. I can do anything, and it's all because I'm in posession of a program that costs the equivalent of one months rent of a one bedroom apartment in New York City. And I got it for free. God is so good!

Finding writing jobs with benefits is the most terrifying thing in the world.
It makes me want to cry sometimes knowing that the one thing in the world I'd love to do for the rest of my existence on this planet, happens to be one of those jobs that is damn near impossible to find. Looking for a job in New York is shaping up to be the equivalent of looking for size small panties on the last day of the Victoria Secret Semi Annual Sale. One in a fucking million.

The Backstreet Boys are coming to Pittsburgh.
My life is now complete. I can worry no longer whether or not I'll get to see them before I die a premature death involving insane amounts of alcohol. Jesus totally loves me.

Gosh, that felt great!

No seriously. When am I going to get the chance to hear more from this beautiful artist. It's kills me a bit when I think of all the phenomenal music we're missing out on from not only Amy Winehouse, but also Lauryn Hill. These women are classics in the making, although in my world they're already considered that...beyond classic. I just wish life and the music industry didn't turn so many people into lunatics...

I hate Facebook.

I use to really enjoy it back in 2004 when you could only join if you had a email address ending in "edu". It was made by a student, ran by students, and geared totally toward student "networking" (read: internet whoring). Then somewhere along the line Facebook pulled a Myspace and sold out. Now there's three piece suits running the show, advertisers "suggesting" you join their pages, and potential employers not only reviewing your resume, and asking about experience; their also looking all those drunken shirtless photos your friends took of you that "one time in undergrad". Facebook lost it's touch awhile ago, and while everyday I tell myself it's time to cut it loose, I can't. It's not because I'm friends with so many people I want to keep in touch with (because I don't), and it's not that I need a place to store my photos (that's what external hard drives are for); no, the only reason I'm still attending daily Crackbook sessions is for one thing:

That damn "Like" button.

I LOVE the Like button! It's the perfect way to say it without having to actually say anything. If I "like" your shirt, but hate your photo I can just Like it and save myself the hassle of having to explain myself. It's the laziest way to show someone you care. I've even taken my love to the streets and have recently begun simply stating "Like" when I dig something or have nothing of value to say. UK based design company Nation obviously knows how I feel and have created not only a Like stamp, but also a Dislike version as well. Total effing WIN! Now not only do I have the option to Like something, I can also use Dislike which is an element I've been waiting for Facebook to produce. This is totally going to come in handy when I get a bank balance I don't care for, or deal with needy ass attention seeking people!

Add to baggggg!

portishead| glory box.

"I'm so tired of playing; playing with this bow and arrow..."

I've been listening to a lot of Portishead lately. I'm not entirely sure why, but a couple of weeks ago after finally getting around to that good ol' through spring cleaning spree I stumbled on a box of my old CD's which included Portishead's Dummy album, all of my Radiohead albums, my first copy of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, and some Beatles vinyls I'd been searching for. The box took me down memory lane reminding me of my 'dark and twisty' phase back in high school.

It's so funny how music can not only speak to, but also alter your entire mood. This song speaks to what I'm going through right now with friends, family, coworkers, boys, girls, dogs and cats. I'm learning very quickly that people tend to look out strictly for themselves and the people closest to them. Not that there's anything remotely wrong with that; I'm guilty of doing it as well. Although I may be fiercely loyal to those I hold closest to my heart, what's wrong with showing everyone a bit of compassion or if we're being completely honest, a little empathy.

Dark and totally twisty.

I'm going to take a moment and be completely honest.
I don't really care about resort collections.
I don't pay any attention to them.
I don't know why.
I mean seriously, what is a resort season?
And furthermore is there such a season where people just "resort"?
And what does this resorting entail?
I'm confused.
And a little tired.
There I said it.

This is the first collection Sarah Burton, McQueen's right hand man (woman?), designed all on her own. She did a wonderful job at keeping his legacy alive, but the design world just isn't the same without him.
